Followers or fans?

The eternal question.

Followers bring you…

Visibility.

Fans bring you...

Engagement.

How many times have you checked your follower account?

I bet you are checking it right now...

Let's dive in.

Numbers and numbers.

Starting Twitter, the only thing I cared about was followers.

The climb to 100, 200, 300, 400 — it felt like milestones of success.

I basked in the glory of each new follower…

Believing I had finally made it.

Like the passing wind, it fades all too quickly.

The high is there and then…

Gone.

And in that moment, when you check again…

Reality hits hard — somebody unfollowed me.

The heartache…

Devastated.

Emotional...

Yes, it hurts.

I gained 200 followers with one post.

Ecstatic.

Lost followers.

Twitter is like a rollercoaster ride.

Followers come and go.

I will let you in on a little secret.

If you stick around long enough…

You will get followers.

The best advice is not to think about it...

Or

Look obsessively at the follower account.

Instead...

Fans of you.

"What is a fan?"

The definition of a fan is…

A person who exhibits strong interest or admiration for something or somebody.

A fan comments on your post.

A fan hits you up with a DM.

A fan is interested in you.

How did I turn followers into fans...

Showing who I really am.

It's simple.

I write about addiction, writing, fighting, personal struggles, entertainment...

So...

I will attract the people who are interested in these subjects.

How?

Write about your interests, share a photo, tell me a story about yourself.

Failures to wins.

Losses to gains.

True Fans

You need followers.

You need fans.

People ask me about engagement groups...

Sure, they help in the beginning.

When I post my tweet, I know certain people will turn up.

The trick is...

Show up for them also.

It goes both ways.

There you go.

Something different next time.

Thank you for reading.

See you next Sunday.

P.S.

If you have problems with writing content

Or

You’re in dire need of assistance…
